Chief Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist, Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

Responsibilities:
Provide administrative, training and technical oversight of neurodiagnostic staff and procedures, including electroencephalography (EEG); epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) studies, including advanced procedures required for the localization of epilepsy foci; evoked potentials; intraoperative monitoring (IOM); and electromyography through the direction and control of the staff's activities, budgetary controls and other functions that contribute to the provision of patient care.
Requirements
• Five years clinical experience with at least three years experience in epilepsy monitoring and two years of related supervisory experience.
• Two years of teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses and other ancillary professional staff when discussing clinical neurophysiologic technology and related areas.
• Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with public, patients, physicians and other medical center staff.

• Good leadership, organizational and teaching skills.
• Advanced knowledge of EEG, epilepsy monitoring and associated procedures, including continuous video-EEG of all types, electrocorticography, brain mapping with cortical stimulation, ambulatory EEG and Wada EEG monitoring.
• Extensive knowledge of evoked potentials (routine and intraoperative) and electromyography.
• Completion of a formal allied health program in electroneurodiagnostic technology accredited by the commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs preferred.
• In absence of training in an accredited program, formal training in an established allied health program consisting of at least 18 months duration preferred.
• Two years of college in the biological sciences or its equivalent desirable.
• Completion of a four-year degree in a related field preferred.

The Neurophysiological Monitoring Service at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center is seeking a Neurophysiological Monitoring Fellow. This is a one year limited appointment position intended to prepare a qualified individual for a career in Neurophysiological Monitoring. During the first six months, the qualified person will train in all aspects of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, including monitoring of a wide variety of surgical procedures (including neurosurgery, otolaryngology, vascular and orthopedic surgery) in which neural structures are at risk, maintaining technical equipment and supplies, preparing patients for neurophysiological testing, participating in regular tutorials and seminars, and studying from primary sources. As part of this training, the fellow will be expected to complete 150 supervised cases by 12/31/10 to qualify for the Spring 2011 CNIM exam (http://www.abret.org/exam_info). Continuation in the program for an additional six months is contingent on satisfactory completion of an in-house examination or a passing score on the CNIM examination.

Job Description
The University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an opportunity available for an IOM Technician within the Department of Neurology, located on our Medical Campus.
Operating within the University of Miami Health System, the IOM Technician conducts testing of central nervous and peripheral system function during surgery. Testing procedures include somatosensory evoked potentials, brainstem auditory evoked potentials, electro-myogram, transcranial electrical stimulation, and pedicle screw placement monitoring. At surgeon’s request, this testing may be conducted pre or post operative under the supervision of Physician or IOM Technician.
Specific duties include:
* Conducting detailed electrophysiological studies of central nervous system (CNS) function during spine and cranial surgery
* Conducting evaluations of central nervous system functions during surgery and providing early warning to the surgeon about potential neural injury
* Conducting pre-operative testing of patient at surgeon’s request
* Maintaining monitoring equipment, computers and electronics in proper working order, and troubleshooting any problems that may occur in the equipment
* Ensuring the efficiency of patient monitoring, including the effects of inhalants, narcotics and narcotic blocking agents
* Assuming on call responsibility on a rotation basis wearing beeper.
Requirements
The selected candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:
* Associate’s Degree in Healthcare related field. Associate’s Degree can be substituted with an EEG, IOM, EP, EKG, or PSG certification.
* BLS certification, or acquisition within six months of employment.

Oregon Health & Science University - Department of Otolaryngology Intraoperative Monitoring Services, Portland, Oregon
This is a faculty position in the Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery. This position is under the general supervision of the Chair, Department of Otolaryngology, and the direct supervision of William Hal Martin, Ph.D., Director of Intraoperative Monitoring Services.
This individual will primarily be responsible for performing intraoperative monitoring services on behalf of the department at hospitals in the greater Portland area. The type of monitoring performed will include recording and interpretation of cranial nerve and other forms of electromyography, auditory and somatosensory evoked potentials, transcranial electrical stimulation for motor evoked potentials, electrocorticography and cortical mapping using an Ojemann stimulator, peripheral nerve testing, and pedicle screw placement verification using EMG. The individual must be able to modify the evoked potentials system programs to accommodate non-standard monitoring procedures for highly complex surgical cases. The individual must be able to set up the cases, record results and interpret them independently. Electrophysiological testing for preoperative or diagnostic purposes must also be performed. He/she will perform data collection, record keeping, data analysis and produce patient reports. The employee will provide instruction to residents, medical and graduate students, public education, and deliver presentations and workshops at professional meetings regarding issues in neurophysiology and intraoperative monitoring.
The employee may participate in research projects within the Oregon Hearing Research Center on neurophysiological factors related to intraoperative monitoring techniques and support students and residents in research projects.
If qualified, the employee may be required to perform audiometric evaluations including pure-tone air and bone conducted testing, immitance audiometery, otoacoustic emissions testing, central auditory testing and tinnitus pitch and loudness matching and other psychoacoustic evaluations as needed. The individual may also perform hearing aid evaluations and dispensing as well as dispensing of other tinnitus assistive devices.

Job Description
Our growing practice in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring is seeking associate PhD, DABNM or physician neurophysiologists. If you have a PhD and are DABNM Board Certified, we want to talk to you. We are also currently seeking a fellowship trained physician neurophysiologist who will ultimately serve as the medical director for our group. The MD position also offers the possibility of a broad based comprehensive clinical neurophysiology practice as well.
Our practice currently covers hospitals in the greater metropolitan Milwaukee area and in a variety of nearby Wisconsin cities. Our service model is to provide comprehensive neurophysiological monitoring capabilities in a “High Tech, High Touch” environment with extensive patient contact and in-OR IONM. We focus on being a significant part of the overall surgical team.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a PhD or MD (US or foreign), DABNM or an MD with board certification in neurology and have completed an intraoperative neurophysiology fellowship.
