The ASNM Position Statement Project

The American Society of Neurophysiological Monitoring (ASNM) is an organization whose membership is diverse in educational backgrounds, specialization, and experience. Now in its 16th year, the ASNM has as its mission, "to improve patient outcomes through the application of neurophysiological monitoring." The ASNM actualizes its mission by a number of means including the promotion of platforms for quality educational opportunities concerning scientific advancements and their clinical applications. Accordingly, the ASNM is engaged in the process of developing position statements concerning both the technical and professional interpretive aspects of neurophysiological monitoring. Great care has been taken in architecting the development process itself, as our aim is to provide practitioners and institutions with living documents that will help them in making choices for optimizing patient care in their community. It is also part of our process to periodically review and revise these statements, as needed, according to newly acquired knowledge.

We are committed to assuring that all practitioners and other concerned individuals have an opportunity to voice their opinions on draft statements. We have implemented this goal by requiring statement authoring committees to address all comments that they receive. The comments will be maintained in a separate document along with a brief explanation of how the committee has incorporated the comment into the draft statement. These comment logs will be published on the ASNM web site, www.ASNM.org. A diagram of the authoring process is also available on the ASNM web site.

The ASNM recognizes that other organizations will have an interest these position statements and we want the leadership and members of these organizations to become partners in the statement drafting process. Thus, we send a request to make these statements available to the membership of number of organizations that we have identified as likely having this interest. We also make the information available here on our web site.. The program used to view these documents, Adobe Acrobat ReaderĀ®, is available as a free download program at www.adobe.com. We invite you to download these documents and following the instructions on commenting. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our Position Statement Project, please do not hesitate to contact me at ASNMeduc@Neurostatus.com.

Sincerely,

David E Morledge, Ph.D., CCC-A, DABNM, FASNM
Chairperson, Education Committee, ASNM
