Legislation to Forestall Cuts to Medicare Reimbursement

CONGRESS PASSES LEGISLATION FORESTALLING CUTS TO MEDICARE REIMBURSEMENT

On Friday February 17, Congress passed legislation to suspend the greater than 27 percent cuts facing Medicare providers on March 1, 2012 due to the reportedly flawed Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula. This arrangement comes after a two month fix previously passed in December and follows discussions by appointed conferees from the US House and Senate. Other measures in the bill are the extension of the payroll tax cut and the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, among others. The next step will be for the bill to go to the President for signature.

Once signed by the President this current fee schedule will not be set to expire until December 31, 2012.  ASNM members are encouraged to check with your Medicare contractor for additional information.
